what makes someone interesting?

It seems like a very easy question to answer, right? But when you break it all down, it's unclear.

To me, the most interesting people are the ones who are experts in the most niche thing you've ever heard of, because they make you interested in it too.

Clive Wearing comes to mind. To most people, he is the Man with the 7 Second Memory, but before that, he was the world's expert in a single conposer - Orlande de Lassus. I'd never heard of this composer, but after watching a documentary on Clive Wearing, Lassus was the next rabbit hole I went down and I found some pretty brilliant music.

Breeding interest in other people makes you interesting, right?

If someone can love something so much that you go from knowing nothing to wanting to know everything, I'd consider them so. Another interesting one for me is Yisela from RetroGeek Crafts. Not a large channel by any means, but she quite literally wrote the book on every single My Little Pony product ever released in 'Generation 1'. I stopped being a fan of My Little Pony when I was a kid, and seeing her videos made me interested again, specifically in the history of them and the international differences.

There are so many people like that, even in my own life, and their interest just seems to drag you in, leaves a little spot of paint on your soul. The more interesting people you meet, the more you learn from them, the more your soul turns into some beautiful painting.

I also think that's why people who stick to their phones all day and never have hobbies seem kinda soulless. You can't get that kind of experience from a 5 second TikTok video, and people don't seem to have the attention span anymore to find interesting people. Again, look at Clive Wearing.

I hope that more and more people find interesting things and become interesting people themselves. I hope they find that thing they love that just lights them up and leaves an imprint on those around them.
