fixing a thinkpad

So, other than posting two new videos that were already on the backburner, I haven't exactly been active for the last couple days. There is a reason for that though.

As I listed in my using page, I use a Thinkpad l580 as my work computer, and while it's usually quite the workhorse for my purposes, recently it's been sluggish, prone to crashes and buggy as hell.

I tried chkdsk and Microsoft's own repair tools to analyse my SSD and repair any issues, thinking it was down to an issue with my drive or some corrupt data. I found a few issues that were repaired, I thought everything was fine, but it definitely wasn't.

So I investigated.

First port of call was the Task Manager. All the usual suspects were there, my browser and Antimalware Service Executable, but there was nothing new there. But there was MSEdgeWebview2, using 90% of my CPU and all my memory, both were in the red. That's not normal in the least.

Because MSEdgeWebiew2 (webview to save time) is a system component, I thought maybe it was a rogue app using it in a way that was causing issues, so I've done a LOT of spring cleaning on my computer, removing hundreds of gigabytes of data and programs, but still nothing.

So I looked it up on Reddit, the tried and true, and saw that this can happen if an update failed or installed incorrectly. A couple months ago, I had an update fail to install, so that had to be it.

After all of that faff, all that palaver, I just had to remove Edge and webview, along with a few other miscellaneous things.

I wish Edge didn't come with Windows by default.
